While many think of blues as an American form, it has now become so internationalized that it is a TWO-WAY street.  Take Aki Kumar, for example.  Born in Bombay, he is now the harp player with up-and-coming blues band Tip of the Top, located in the San Francisco Bay area. Tip of the Top is [...]

What did you decide, Mingle or Buddy press?

      • Thomas Colvin 9:28 pm on January 6, 2011 | Reply

Dean, decided to go with Mingle. BuddyPress just seemed to risky to mix with other elements of my website. I already have a basic implementation of Mingle, with tweaking underway. I like Mingle, especially as it works within my new Theme.

Now let’s wait to see if musicians and fans will join our community.

We just posted a video of Paul, playing with Manila bluesman Joniver, “The Blues Bad Boy,” just last night at My Brother’s Mustache in Quezon City. Joniver is Paul’s inspiration — and he couldn’t choose a better one. Now I guess I have to change Paul’s nickname to “The Blues Good Boy,” then we’ll have quite a pair! You can find the video in our TV Channel box below for the next few days. After that, look for it at http://www.vodpod.com/bluesasia.

MANILA — The Hobbit House is probably the oldest live music bar in Manila.  It was the dream project of ex-Peace Corpsman and American citizen Jim Turner, who decided to remain in the country after his tour of duty.  The place was created to provide employment to Manila’s “small people,” as Jim calls them, or [...]

      Hi!
My husband and I were fond of the Hobbit House when we were still residing in Manila back in the late 90s. Recently, we were on a business trip in Manila and wanted to taste some blues one evening and had a hard time finding the new Hobbit House…we were quite disappointed that night. No crowd as we were used to in the former place, and we didn’t really like the atmosphere of the new place… it lacks that certain feeling of intimacy and warmth as it used to have.
We hope that we the slow “awakening” of some blues bands in Manila will again bring to life how Hobbit House once was.

MANILA –  Rickie Cui has long been known in the Philippines as one of the most passionate blues players around.  So passionate, in fact, that he opened a bar in the upscale community of Alabang in the mid-1990′s with a 100-percent blues policy.  During its four-year run, the bar featured Manila-based blues bands on weekends, [...]

I want some of dat! This guy sounds like a hard core blues person. The kind of person who must love a good harp player. Tomcat and Whiteboy seem to get a spot in his shows. I hope I can hook up and play some classic blues. I like JGeils and Paul Butterfield, John Mayall, Charlie Musslewhite and a few other reed benders from the old days. Not excluding Jimmy Reed or Sonny Boy Williamson. See you Rickie
