Japan’s New Orleans Jazz Hounds Invade Guam — 19 November

Guam’s Mermaid Tavern will host a one-night appearance on 19 November, starting at 7:30, of the remarkable New Orleans Jazz Hounds from Tokyo.  The event is sponsored by the Micronesia Blues Society.  The band was formed in 2004 to keep the Dixieland jazz tradition alive in Japan.  The band has built an international following, especially since its appearances in New Orleans in 2008 during its annual jazz festival.

Dixieland, of course, grew directly out of the blues and set the foundations for all of the jazz that was to follow.

For a glimpse of dixieland music, as well as the band itself, visit its well-developed MySpace page — it’s in English for the benefit of its international audience.
