Great share! I wish there will be a version or equivalent for iPhone/iPad.

    • Thomas Colvin 3:35 am on January 16, 2011 | Reply

Joric, as a matter of fact, it IS already available for iPhone at iTunes. For details, click on the EAR TRAINING tab at the top of his website, which takes you to his blog entries about his Ear Training software. Turns out that the iPhone app even has a feature not available in the online version — pitch recognition. And the developer has also added a major new feature, which plays JAZZ LICKS for one to try to catch by ear.

Better hurry to iTunes to buy it. It’s currently free, but the developer is thinking of CHARGING for it. A whopping $1.99! The online version, he says, will always be free.

Just to clarify a little further, this iPhone app goes by adifferent name — Play By Ear, but it has the same functionality as Online Ear Trainor.

Back in March 2010, I had a fruitful trip to Cebu for a business meeting and also a meeting with master luthier Junx Muana of Harana Guitars to pick up my custom-made guitar.  Junx was kind enough to invite me to play a set of acoustic blues at  The Outpost, a popular resto-bar that features [...]

Kelvin – There are HD pics there of Harana guitars, including mine, on my FB page. I have a Singaporean colleague who had one built, maybe you can try his. ;-) Drop me a message if you want me to hook you up.

        Joric, Tom,

Rich Miller here. I want to thank you both for graciously welcoming me into the Blues community here in the Philippines. Tom for tirelessly sharing his passion for the blues with the Philippine people along with the rest of Asia, and Joric for willingly sharing his stage with all people who show an interest in, or a talent for, playing the Blues.
Unfortunately my wife was stricken seriously ill and our slow migration to the Philippines was further stifled by the stark reality of the material world. This body is sooo heavy. Perfect Blues stuff right? It comes from working your a$$ off for a Fortune 500 company and having to leave your real passions to drift aimlessly in time. It is either that or pursue your art and die before your work is recognized. Van Gogh??? We all know that, “time waits for no one, and it won’t, wait for me!”
Anyway, things will level out and we will find our way here in the Philippines and I will have time to share some blues with you all, or find some other way to fulfill my own desire to express myself through the Blues harmonica and song.
I’m glad to see the Blues is growing a strong interest here in the Philippines. Proliferated much by the likes of Tom and Joric. Joric is obviously a key player and a driving force of the Blues scene here and Tom is of course its “Master of Ceremonies!”

        Best regards,

Rich Miller – Harp player and singer – originally from New York

Hi Rich – Thanks for the kind words and support. Really hope your family situation gets better soon. I look forward to seeing more of you here.

Alternatively, a friend (bassist) says there might be some blues gigs up there in Tagaytay. Send me your mobile # and I’ll contact you when we need a harmonica player. I think you got my email already.

Many working musicians are familiar with the Real Book series of “fake” books.  This series has become the standard tool than many musicians haul around with them to all their gigs.  While mostly oriented to jazz and pop bands, there are quite a number of chord charts for well-known blues songs. Two products have come [...]
