Sister Morphin Launches New Album

Sister Morphin, an Indonesian blues/jazz trio that takes its name from a Rolling Stones song, launches its new album Nocturnal Flight by Lustair on Monday night, 14 February, at King’s Cafe in Seturan Jogja.

The band, based in Yogyakarta, was formed in 2000, but really took shape in 2007 when it found its current style of music and delivery.  Sister Morphin, describing itself in its own words, “plays Blues and Jazz music with a gentle touch of psychedelic, and adopt a minimalist musical concept, simple but beautiful and full of energy. ”

A search around the internet uncovers a number of audio and video recordings.  I must admit that I have been absolutely captivated by its sound.  The band is composed of Yulia Qomariah, vocals; Herry Firmansyah, guitar; and Dian Malindo, keyboard.

The band maintains an online presence at MySpace and at PureVolume, as well as on its Facebook Page.  There’s more video on YouTube at Mr. Yogaparatama’s Channel.  Shared below is a past concert to give you a flavor of what this band is all about.

MySpace is, of course, well known, but bands and fans may wish to look also into the Pure Volume website, which is dedicated to “the discovery and promotion of new music and emerging artists. Each artist has a profile that typically contains basic info, updates, photos, shows and music for streaming. Artists have the option of making each of their songs available for free download.”
