Tokyo Joe’s in Bangkok Reopens

Last night we recorded the next two segments of our TV show, featuring in Episode 4.1 a tribute to our BLUES BROTHERS IN THAILAND.  As part of our coverage, we passed on a report from our correspondent Ron McMillan that the Tokyo Joe’s blues bar has re-opened, after being dark for a couple of years.  To help people find the place, Ron offers these directions:

Tokyo Joe’s is on Sukhumvit Soi 26, about 200 metres into the soi from Sukhumvit, on the left side. It is almost opposite the St James Hotel, a map to which is here:

Take the Skytrain to Prom Phong station, exit the station on the ‘even’ numbered soi side, walk about 100m to Soi 26, which has a tailor shop on one corner and a oil painting shop on the other corner. Walk into the soi until you find Tokyo Joe’s on the left side.

Live music is Thursday to Sunday, I think.

Tokyo Joe’s in its former days was a major hangout for blues fans in Bangkok.  It featured as its house band the Soi Dog Blues Band, and one hopes this band returns to its post.  The band, I’ve learned, played at the bar’s soft opening on 15 October.  Sundays were once very popular open mic nights, and that practice is expected to resume.  Another band that used to perform there was the Mercy Street Blues Band, but I have no information about them.  If anyone knows anything about this band, please leave a comment to the post.  And any other feedback about the bar will be welcome.  For more information, check out this recently updated website.
