BLUES ASIA TV: Episode 2.2
Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan & Indian blues harp guru Aki Kumar
*****
Lots of news and some video about blues festivals in Asia. Unfortunately, since recording this segment, the Bangkok Blues Festival has been cancelled due to the floods. WE DEDICATE THIS SHOW TO OUR BLUES BROTHERS IN THAILAND.
We also share some very recently created videos emanating from recording studios. Musicians can learn from these two approaches to inexpensive video, both of which show off the music very well indeed. We honor too the 24th anniversary of Hong Kong’s The Wanch, one of Asia’s major venues for blues [usually once or twice a week]. We follow up last episode’s busker video with another one, featuring a 14-year-old street musician. We remind ourselves that jazz is very much a part of the blues story. And we even witness a harmonica duel between India-born Aki Kumar and Andy Santana.
ADVANCE NOTICE: The week of November 6, we have scheduled a special guest, Gerry Diwa, who is a blues bass player, a recording studio owner and a videographer. He will share tips about how to get good and interesting video at low or very reasonable cost. This is part of our effort to help musicians upgrade the quality of their online video.
